Resolved: Could not connect to Steam Network

27 01 2007

Alright, so I tried to login to steam a few days ago so I wanted to go ahead and post my fix to the problem because I went through hell (primarily overlooking the answer) to find the simple fix for something so arbitrary. This should help you with your average Steam connection problem.

Cannot Connect to Steam Error

Steam - Error
Could not connect to Steam network.
This could be due to a problem with your internet connection, or with the Steam network. Please visit www.steampowered.com for more info.

If you get this error and it seems like your the only one with the error (IE. Everyone you know except you can login), then you can do two things.

First, Check your firewall settings, 90% of the time the reason steam cannot connect is because there are firewall issues that prevent steam from connecting. So be sure to check any services that could be interfering or denying your service alltogether.

The second (and this was what fixed my connection problem), is to disable the DMZ (Demilitarized zone) on your router. I know, first thought was, “Wouldn’t that actually fix the problem?” Nope, in fact, that’s what randomly (and I do mean randomly) created the problem. I do not know why, but that was what fixed my problem. If you need help, feel free to drop an email over at matt@blur101.com. I’ll respond within the day.
